![]() ![]() Here's another test that takes into account that: yes they need to be manually operated but I reckon 1 ice fan is enough to cool down a farm that can feed 8 dupes(maybe more, maybe i'll do a test for that lol). I also disagree that ice fans suck, I still think they are overpowered. its effectiveness differs depending on what the pipes are made of and what masses are in play. ![]() these things are overpowered!Ĭonclusion: Klei continues to dumb down the challenge of this game, particularly with the last couple of EoL updates(EZness of Life updates)Ĭonvection in the game feels slow and disperses oddly, but not that a big of a deal imo. Result: I can grow crops right next to the steam vent with just a single-thickness insulated sandstone wall in the way. Let's see how 2 ice fans do when knowledge of game mechanics is used, note: still using inefficient basic materials Result: after just 2 cycles temperatures have dropped noticeably. I have used 6 ice fans for this test because that is how many there are in your screenshot: top and bottom are completely open to the caustic biome to add to the challenge. regular gas pipes are made out of granite(has some thermal conductivity but nowhere near as good as radiant piping) all insulated walls are built out of sandstone(which is a weak material to use for insulation) except for the tiny room in which the ice is located, that is made of insulated ceramic. I hadn't tried the new ice fans so I decided to do tests, the tests are conducted completely in the caustic biome which has temperatures of between 40c to 50c, there is an active steam vent nearby to add to the challenge. Just because you built a big base and got to cycle 813, doesn't mean you understand all of the game's mechanics. Problem is I gave the Ice e fans a chance to prove they're worth something and they're not. Originally posted by Badmanticore:Yea I don't understand the mechanics lol. Nonetheless I won't be bothering with the fans as they are a complete waste of dupe time and the worts dont seem to be cooling anything other them themselves. You can see hot air is sitting stuck below warm air in multiple places that I have opened up. I'm not seeing higher temps rise up as hot air is moving radially or horizontally more then vertically. I've built this same colony/seed to cycle 900 2x now through the patches making it self sustaining before getting tired of the tediousness (this being the 3rd test). 6 fans +4 wort running for 7 cycles should at the very least change one lower rooms from warm to temp. (Ice fans above farm(heat rising up through the farm from below and gets cooled after) Yes, NS that's what I want but I dont want the cooler air stuck there. Warm gas is only warm because the fans do nothing in the o2 gen room either as its easy af to outweigh the -dtu they provide. I don't want the gas flow blocked, I want the heat to rise and cold to fall which is not happening. Anything on the outside of the base is igneus until i get better. There are hot biomes all around the base. ![]()
